Technicality and tempo: ride scores
Two scores from 0 to 10: how hard the trail was and how well you rode without stops.
The ride card has a “Ride score” block below the heart rate. The scores are calculated from the track on their own — with or without a watch — a couple of minutes after the ride is saved.
Technicality is how hard the trail was. It is made of:
- twistiness — how much turning per kilometre;
- hairpins — turns sharper than 120°;
- steepness and elevation gain;
- share of slow riding — where you had to crawl.
Below the comparison bars is difficulty by kilometre: each cell is a kilometre, the darker, the harder. Under it is the main reason, for example “Steepness, elevation gain” or “Slow riding, hairpins”. The same colors appear on the map and elevation profile in the “Difficulty” mode.
Tempo is how well the ride went without stops. This is how enduro riders train endurance: better to ride the whole trail slowly than fast with stops. Speed is not part of tempo. The ride tape shows it from start to finish: teal is moving, gray is stops, a thin line is rest. Under the tape is what tempo is made of:
- share of time on the move;
- the longest stretch without a stop;
- stops per hour.
A stop is more than 8 seconds standing still. Rests longer than 5 minutes do not count: lunch and walking the trail are normal.
Comparison. Each score has bars: “Your ride” in color, “Your previous” — your previous ride at this place, “Other riders” — the median of at least three others, without names. Rides from the last 120 days that share at least 40 % of the route count. You can keep your rides out of other people’s comparisons: profile → “Privacy” → “Who sees the rider passport” — “Nobody”.
Difficult sections and frequent stops are the kilometres worth a look. Tap a kilometre — the map smoothly moves to it and the chart highlights it. Tap it again to see the whole track.
What is left out:
- asphalt — road sections are cut out using the map;
- the first and last 300 m — the parking area and the start.
If more than 60 % is asphalt or the route is as flat as a road, you will see “not scored” instead: on a transfer, neither technicality nor tempo tells anything. Rides shorter than 2 km are not scored.
