Direct messages and event chat

Chatting with a rider and the shared chat of an event: photos, videos and files, read ticks, requests, leaving a chat.

  1. Open a rider’s passport and tap “Message”.
  2. All conversations live under the messages icon in the header of the main tabs; the number on it is your unread count.
  3. Press and hold a message: reactions on top, then reply, edit your own, forward, pin, copy, delete your own, or report someone else’s.

Who can write to you. Friends and organizers of events you signed up for can write right away. A message from anyone else arrives as a request: reply or tap “Accept” and it becomes a regular conversation, or block the sender. Until you reply, they can send no more than three messages. To turn requests off, open the messages screen: the settings icon in the header → “Friends only” or “No one”. You can only write in chats once your profile has a name, so others know who is writing to them. If the name is missing, the message field is replaced by an “Add name” button that opens your profile with the name field ready.

Photos, videos, and files. Use the paperclip to the left of the input: photos and videos from your library (up to ten per message), the camera, or a file — PDF, GPX, documents up to 20 MB. Videos can be up to five minutes: they are compressed on the phone before sending and must fit in 200 MB after that. What you picked waits in a strip above the input; remove an item with the cross. Tap a photo or video in the thread to open it full screen: zoom a photo with two fingers or a double tap; at the bottom are “Save” (to the phone’s gallery) and “Share”. Tap a file to open or save it (on iPhone — “Save to Files”). From version 2.5.0 you can also send photos and videos straight from the gallery: “Share” → ENDURO.FAMILY → pick a chat — the files are attached to a message.

Ticks. On your own messages: a clock — sending, one tick — delivered to the server, two ticks — the other person opened the conversation and read it. In an event chat the second tick is not shown.

Links. When a message contains a link, a card appears under the text: site name, title, description and image. You see it above the input before sending — tap the cross to send the message without the card. Our server opens the site, not your phone; the card always shows the real address the link leads to. Tap the card to open the site.

Voice and video messages. While the input is empty, a microphone replaces “Send”. Press and hold it to record and release to send. Slide left to cancel, or slide up to the lock to keep recording hands-free — then a bin appears on the left and “Send” takes the button’s place. Voice messages run up to five minutes.

Circles. A short tap turns the microphone into a camera: holding it now records a circle video message with the front camera, up to one minute; tap again to switch back. You can flip the camera while recording. In the chat a circle plays silently on loop; tap it to play from the start with sound.

Polls and ride proposals. In the paperclip “Attach” menu there’s “Poll”: a question, two to ten options, optionally several answers and a deadline. People vote right in the message and can change their vote until it closes; votes aren’t anonymous — tap “who voted” to see who picked what. The author can close a poll, and in an event or club chat the organizer can too. A “Ride proposal” has a name, date and time, and place. Members answer “Going”, “Maybe” or “No”. Once there’s a group, the author taps “Create ride” — the usual ride creation opens with everyone who answered “Going” already in “Who’s coming”; after it’s created, the card shows “Open ride”. Polls and ride proposals work in every chat: direct, event and club. They can’t be edited or forwarded — only deleted.

Reactions and editing. One reaction per message; tap it again to remove it. You can edit your own message within 15 minutes of sending — “edited” appears next to the time. Voice and forwarded messages cannot be edited.

Pin, forward, search. “Pin” keeps a message in a bar under the chat header — tap it and the chat scrolls smoothly to that message and highlights it (tapping a quote in a reply or a search result does the same). To reply quickly, swipe a message to the left; in a direct chat either person can pin, in an event chat only the organizer. “Forward” sends a message with its attachments to your other chats (up to five at once), signed with who wrote it. Search by words is the “search” button on the “About the chat” screen (tap the name in the chat header or “⋯”). “Select” marks several messages at once: tap the ones you need, then use “Forward” (up to ten at a time), “Copy” or “Delete” at the bottom (your own only; an event organizer can delete any in the event chat).

Chat list. At the top there is a search by names, event titles and the last message, and tabs: “All”, “Direct”, “Events”, “Unread”. Swipe a chat left to get “Mute”, “Delete” (“Leave” for an event chat) and “Archive”; swipe right to “Pin”. The same actions are in the long-press menu. Pinned chats stay at the top of the list, up to five of them. An archived chat moves to the “Archive” tab and is not counted in the messages badge; when someone writes in it, it returns to the main list by itself — unless it is muted.

“Typing” and “last seen”. Under the other person’s name you see that they are typing, online now, or when they were last here. To hide your own time: messages screen → settings icon → “Who sees when you were online”. Hide yours and you stop seeing other people’s too.

Deleting. You can delete your own message — it disappears for both of you. “Delete chat” (the “delete” button on the “About the chat” screen, or press and hold the chat in the list) removes the conversation for you only: the other person keeps it, and if they write again the chat comes back with the new messages.

Notifications. A new message sends a notification. If that chat is open on your screen, there is no notification — the message appears in the thread with a short sound and a vibration (the phone’s silent mode mutes the sound). To turn notifications off for one chat, press and hold the chat in the list and choose “Mute” (also the “sound” button on the “About the chat” screen); for all chats — Profile → Notifications → “Messages”. Muted a chat by accident? For a few seconds the chat row shows an “Undo” button. If notifications are turned off in your phone settings, a “Notifications are off” banner with a “Turn on” button appears at the top of “Messages”.

Notifications in event chats. So a busy conversation doesn’t flood your phone, you get a notification for the first message, and then, until you open the chat, no more than once every five minutes, marked “N more new”. A reply to your message always comes through. Tapping a notification opens the chat on top of the “Messages” list — “back” takes you to the list.

With no connection, the message stays in the thread marked “Not sent” — tap it to retry. It won’t be duplicated. New messages in an open chat show up with a delay of up to three seconds.

Event chat. A race, tour, training session, or outing has a shared chat. Open it from the “In-app chat” row in the “Event chat” block on the event page; after the first visit it also shows up in your messages list. It is visible to organizers, riders whose entry was not rejected, and those who answered an invitation with “I’m coming” or “Maybe”. Messages from others show the author’s photo on the left (tap it to open their passport) and their name above the first message in a row. Thirty days after the event the chat becomes read-only. If you’d rather stay out, choose the “leave” button on the “About the chat” screen or press and hold the chat in the list: it disappears and notifications stop. You can come back from the event page — the history is kept.

About the person. Tap the name in a direct chat header or “⋯” to open the “About the chat” screen: photo, name and when they were last online, the “sound”, “search”, “passport” and “delete” buttons, a “Block” row, and the “Media” (all photos and videos of the conversation) and “Files” tabs.

About the chat. All event chat settings live on the “About the chat” screen: tap the chat title in the header or “⋯”. At the top are the icon and the “sound”, “search” (in messages), “event” and “leave” buttons. Below are tabs. “Participants” lists the organizer, the event team and everyone with access, including those who haven’t opened the chat yet; under each name you see when the person was last online (unless they hide it), with a search by name above the list. “Media” shows all photos and videos of the chat in a grid, “Files” — the files sent, “Links” — every link from the messages (press and hold a link to copy it). Tap a person to open their passport or message them directly.

Chat guests. You can bring people who haven’t signed up for the event into its chat. On the “About the chat” screen use “Invite friends” (pick friends — they get a notification) or “Invite link” (share a link like enduro.family/c/…). People who join this way are marked “guest”: they read and write like participants, but it doesn’t count as an event entry. Any chat member can invite. The event team can remove a guest (tap them in the list) and reset the link — the old one stops working, and those who already joined stay.

Club chat. Every club has one shared chat. Open it with the “Chat” button on the club page; it is available to all club members — join the club and the chat is yours, leave and it disappears. You can invite friends and share an invite link just as in an event chat: a guest reads and writes but does not join the club. The club owner, admins and moderators manage the chat — icon, pins, removing people; roles are assigned in the club itself. Everyone can write. Once you have a club chat, a “Clubs” tab appears in “Messages”.

For organizers. The chat starts as a discussion — everyone can write. In the “Who can write” row of the “About the chat” screen you can switch to “Organizers only”: only organizers write, and each of their messages reaches every participant as a notification. Press and hold a participant’s message to delete it for everyone or to remove the author from the chat — they keep reading but can’t write; “Return to chat” is in the same menu. There an organizer also sets the chat icon (the “Chat icon” row or a tap on the icon itself) and removes or returns a participant by tapping them in the list. Roles — co-organizer, moderator, marshal — are only shown in the chat; they are assigned in the event itself.

Insults, spam, and anything illegal are not allowed. A moderator handles reports and sees only the message that was reported.
